I'm just going to Safeway, brb

Ok, so you know how when it's C.O. visit and you're having them over for lunch, you don't exactly turn the house upside and wear your best frock or anything, but you do make a bit of an effort, right?  Because we appreciate them and we want to make them feel special!

Well anyway, this morning when my 7 year old woke up, her first words were "Mommy, I'm sick" and she started vomiting.  Not the best way to start the day.  So I cancelled the study I was planning to go on, and cancelled the babysitter we had (finally) got for the evening, and then cancelled our dinner plans for the evening also.  :/  Fine, I'm a mom, I can totally deal with this kind of thing, no sweat, right?

I get the one healthy kid going on schoolwork, get the sick one set up in bed with all the appropriate accoutrements and cartoons (because even if you're homeschooled, you still get a day off school if you're puking), and get myself going for the day.

I figure out I have NO clean pants, so I throw on a skirt.  It's kind of a funky one that I haven't worn to meeting yet because I'm not super confident about it, so I figure I'll give it a test run today when I go to the bank/grocery store/etc.  Throw on some lipstick, because a skirt without lipstick is weird, right?  Now I have this necklace that I bought last fall, and I really like it, but I haven't been brave enough to wear it.  I like big and bold, but let me tell you, this necklace is big and BOLD!  I've put it on with probably ten different outfits for meeting and taken it back off.  So I thought, ok, I'm gonna wear it today, it will be fine for Safeway, whatever...

It's about an hour later and I'm out running errands and my brother calls.  He and his wife both work at the hospital.  She was called into work earlier this morning, and he was just called in, and he tells me that it's C.O. visit for them this week and the C.O. is actually coming over for lunch in 20 minutes, along with some other brothers and sisters, and could I please come over ASAP and substitute host for them?

Oh, did I mention that last night I was too tired to fully remove my make-up after meeting so I have some dark clouds of old mascara hanging around my orbital sockets?
Yeah...

It ended up being a really nice lunch, very encouraging (of course!), and I met some new friends from that congregation.  (And it bears mentioning that I never fail to be amazed at my sister in law's incredible cooking.  I may entertain a lot, but that woman beats me in the cooking department, hands down, every time.)

Anyway, how was your day?

So what's going on in Russia?

Last night we were sitting at the table getting ready to begin family worship, and my husband had the iPad and asked me "Why is the Google logo a rainbow today?".  I thought for a second and said that I thought it was because the Olympics had just begun.  He had already been reading about it and he looked at me and shook his head and indicated that it was not that, stated that it had to do with "Russia's whole thing going on over there", meaning the boycott of the Olympics by the gay rights activists.
Mmm, ok....we continued to prepare for worship.

Two seconds later my 7 year old says " I know what you're talking about".

"I don't think you do sweetie, we'll talk about it later."

"No, I KNOW! You act like I don't, but I do!"

"Babe, I really don't think you do and we'll talk about it after."

"But mom...!" (7 year olds can be pretty persistent, in case you don't have one yourself.)

So while her dad is passing out the handouts, she leans over and whispers in my ear "I KNOW that Russia is trying to shut down the JW.org website Mom, you don't have to whisper about it!" and sits back down, looking all satisfied with herself.

We had to admit, the girl is up on current world events.  :)
